Measuring brain activity: seeing what your brain does

In BrainRouting you don't work with what you tell afterwards, but with what happens in your brain in the moment. Sensors on your head continuously measure your brain activity. Here you read how that works, what the measurement shows and whether it is safe.

How do you measure brain activity during a training?

During BrainRouting, sensors on your head continuously measure your brain activity while you watch a film. This is called an EEG (electroencephalogram).

Based on this objective data, your brain receives direct feedback through the screen. You don't need to consciously understand how the feedback works. Your brain learns from the repeated feedback.

Throughout the session, your coach helps you become more aware of your responses and discover what helps you respond differently.

Is measuring brain activity safe?

Yes. The sensors only record. They don't send any current or signal into your head.
An EEG is a measurement, not a treatment.

What does the measurement show?

The measurement shows how your brain activity changes in the moments that matter: when things get tense, when something affects you or when you are under pressure. Sometimes these changes become visible before you consciously notice them yourself.

That makes visible what might otherwise go unnoticed. Together with your coach, you explore what happens in those moments. When similar responses keep coming back, you can begin to recognise patterns that also show up in everyday life.

“That screen, I obviously can't fool it,” a participant said after the training.

How it differs from coaching

  • In coaching, you mainly work with what you consciously experience and can put into words.
  • In BrainRouting, we add objective measurements of your brain activity. This allows your brain to receive direct feedback, including on changes you may not yet consciously notice.
  • Your coach helps you make sense of your experiences and discover what helps you respond differently.

What happens during a session

You watch a film while sensors measure your brain activity. At intervals, your coach pauses the film to discuss what you experience and discover.

1

The sensors are fitted

Your coach fits the sensors and explains what to expect.

2

Your brain activity is measured

Sensors continuously measure your brain activity, providing objective data throughout the training.

3

Your brain gets direct feedback

Your brain receives immediate feedback through what you see, hear and feel, helping it learn from repeated feedback.

4

Other responses become more accessible

Through training and repetition, alternative responses become easier to access in everyday life.
